about

Melodic-punk rockers Vice Like Grip release their latest E.P. “Antidote”

Vice Like Grip return with their latest recording “Antidote”, recorded by Ian Sadler at Emeline Studios. The recording sees the band continue to develop their melodic punk formula, and takes inspiration from a contrasting two and a half years since their last release “None of the Above” in 2011.

Musically, they have continued building some substantial momentum off the back of their well-regarded live performances. Big Cheese magazine named them as ‘one to watch’ in 2012, gave “None of the Above” a four star review and traditional set closer (until recently) “Pseudo Junkie” was featured on their cover CD. They have warmed crowds for everyone from punk stalwarts U.K. Subs and Peter and the Test Tube Babies to fellow up and comers River Jumpers and The Junk, making plenty of new friends along the way. Even nu metal-era one hit wonders OPM called upon the Grip during their European tour.

They took the VLG experience on tour in 2012, bringing their melodic punk sound to venues across Belgium and Germany alongside punk geniuses Struggling For Reason.

But individually, the last couple of years have been much more mixed. There have been highs and lows for each member. A new baby, Johnny, joined the Grip family. A marriage and a jolting breakup have hit the band in quick succession.

The rollercoaster experience the band have been through fits well with their contrasting musical style. They have always mixed bouncing, up tempo rhythms with dark, even gloomy lyrics and for “Antidote” the band take things even further. Riffs blast out at a furious pace alongside tales of loss and hopeless romanticism, from ruefully resilience (“Punch Drunk”) to bleak frustration (“Blackout”). Skate Punk influences are at the forefront on “Rise Above” alongside a pick-yourself-back-up chorus, while “Far From Home” is a catchy, crowd-pleasing punk anthem.

And if you’re still not convinced, you can check out their frenetic take on the classic Misfits tune “Hybrid Moments” which is available now to download for free. If you haven’t caught VLG live yet, Get your ass to a show!!

"A joy to listen to. Laden with sing-a-long choruses and gigantic hooks, vice like grip are more than just a run of the mill pop punk band. They bring to the table something far more potent, and produce a sound as good as any band of their ilk. Expect big things from these guys" - Big Cheese Magazine ... more
